A Heavenly Host Praising God - Luke 2:13

Luke the physician wrote how after the birth of Jesus to Joseph and Mary, “there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger, and in chapter two and verse thirteen of his book Luke shared about a, “heavenly host praising God” where we read:

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

The verse reads,And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, ... Luke began with the words, “and suddenly” or “and immediately and forthwith” “there was with the angel” which means “there existed alongside the messenger or envoy of God” “a multitude” or “a large crowd or assemblage” “of the heavenly host” which means “belonging to the celestial army, band or troops of angels” “praising God” or “extolling, recommending, exalting and giving honor to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how a massive group of “angels” joined the messenger “angel” and began to give glory and honor to “God”.

The verse goes on to say,... and saying, Luke continued with the words, “and saying” which means “and uttering, declaring and proclaiming”. Luke shared how the massive crowd of “angels” were declaring the words which are found in our next verse.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we can only imagine the reaction of the shepherds when they saw one angel, and now after having received word that the “Savior is born”, this huge group of “angels” join him and they begin to “praise God” in unison. What a scene this must have been as these “lowly shepherds” were allowed to see what is usually only seen in Heaven! God's plan for the salvation of man was here, and the angels joined in with the celebration. God's love for mankind was being demonstrated, and people who are wise will join in with the “angels” and give glory and honor to God that He well deserves.

Next time Luke shares how the angels say, “glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
