Jesus Presented to the Lord - Luke 2:22

Luke the physician wrote concerning Joseph and Mary, when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb., and in chapter two and verse twenty-two of his book Luke shares how Joseph and Mary brought Jesus, “to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord” where we read:

And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished,

they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

The verse reads,And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, ... Luke began with the words, “and when the days” or “and at the time and moment after the sunrises to sunsets” “of her purification” which means “pertaining to Mary's cleansing, ritual purgation or washing” “according to the law of Moses” or “toward and through out the rule, command, precept and injunction belonging to Moses who was the legislator of the Jewish people and in a certain sense the founder of the Jewish religion whose name means drawing out” “were accomplished” which means “were finished, completed and fulfilled”. Luke referred to the time when Mary's “cleansing” “according to Moses' rule was completed.

The verse continues,... they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; Luke added the words, “they brought him” which means “Joseph and Mary carried and brought forth Jesus” “to Jerusalem” or “to the city of Jerusalem which means set you double peace” “to present him” which means “to place, set and bring Jesus” “to the Lord” or “to the One whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah”. Luke shared how Joseph and Mary took Jesus to the city of “Jerusalem” so they could “place” Him before God.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Joseph and Mary brought Jesus to “Jerusalem” to dedicate Him to the Lord after “Mary's” days of “purification” were over. Forty days for the “purifying” of a woman after she birthed a male child were instructed in the law of Moses, and after those days were over, Jesus was taken to “Jerusalem” in compliance with Moses' law which said they were to present their male son with an offering of a lamb or dove. Each of these details were to be followed concerning God's Son and Messiah Jesus, and as a person considers all these things, the best response is to yield to Him as a personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Luke refers to the scripture that says, “every male that opens the womb shall be called holy by the Lord”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
