By the Mouth of God's Holy Prophets - Luke 1:70

Luke the physician wrote how Zacharias and Elisabeth had a son whom they named “John”. After naming their son, “immediately” Zacharias' “tongue loosed, and he spoke, and praised God. And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea. And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him. And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he has visited and redeemed his people, and has raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David.”, and in chapter one and verse seventy of his book Luke shared how Zacharias said God spoke, “by the mouth of his holy prophets” where we read:

As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:

The verse reads, “As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, ...” Luke began with the words, “as he spoke” or “as God uttered, declared and proclaimed” “by the mouth of his holy prophets” which means “through the orifices of speaking belonging to God's sacred, pure, morally blameless and religiously and ceremonially consecrated ones who were moved by the Spirit of God and hence his organ or spokesman who solemnly declared to men what he has received by inspiration, especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation”. Luke shared how Zacharias referred to the “prophetic words” which were “spoken” by God's “sacred and pure” “prophets”.

The verse goes on to say, “... which have been since the world began:” Luke continued with the words, “which have been since” which means “that have existed from the origin of when” “the world began” or “the unbroken age, perpetuity and eternal beginning of the age”. Luke shared how God has sent His “prophets” to speak about the “salvation” of mankind from the beginning of the “world”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how Zacharias referred to the “words” of the “prophets” as he “prophesied” himself. God wanted people to know He was sending His Messiah and Son Jesus, and He would provide “salvation” to mankind. God sent the Messiah's “fore-runner”, “John”, through Zacharias and Elisabeth, and Zacharias wanted all people to know the answer to their “sin problem” was on the way. God desires to live with people “forever”, and those who trust in, rely upon and cling to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will receive forgiveness for their sins and “everlasting life” with God.

Next time Luke shares how Zacharias says David, “that we should be saved from our enemies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
