God's Mercy and Dayspring - Luke 1:78

Luke the physician wrote how, “Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he has visited and redeemed his people, And has raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David. As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began. That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us. To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant. The oath which he swore to our father Abraham, That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear. In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, ...”, and in chapter one and verse seventy-eight of his book Luke shared how Zacharias referred to, “the tender mercy of our God” and His “dayspring” where we read:

Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high has visited us,

The verse reads, “Through the tender mercy of our God;” Luke began with the words, “through the tender mercy” or “by way of the passionate, affectionate, benevolent and compassionate kindness and goodness” “of our God” which means “belonging to Zacharias and Israel's Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how God would “forgive and pardon” the sins of people by way of His “compassionate and passionate” “kindness and goodness”.

The verse goes on to say, “... whereby the dayspring from on high has visited us,” Luke added the word, “whereby” which means “by whom” “the dayspring from on high” or “the rising of the sun, east or dawn out of the high station or heaven” “has visited us” which means “has looked upon, cared for and provided for Zacharias and the people of Israel”. Luke shared how Zacharias continued his prophesy by sharing how the coming of his son John would mark the “new dawning” of provision and care from God.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how John's coming was to be the beginning of a new era with the people of God. God was silent for over four hundred years before the coming of His “fore-runner” to the Messiah Jesus, and now, as though the sun was rising upon the people of Israel again, Jesus was on His way. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, it is though a “new day” or “fresh start” has come upon them. The “dayspring from on high has visited” them, and they are made a “new creation” in Him. (See 2 Corinthians 5:17). Let all who read these words yield themselves to the “dayspring from on high”, Jesus, and begin their lives with a “fresh start” today.

Next time Luke shares how Zacharias shares how God's mercy was sent “to give light to them that sit in darkness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
