In the book of Daniel, Daniel speaking of Nebuchadnezzar shared how, “the king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing you could reveal this secret”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse forty-eight Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar, “made Daniel a great man” where we read,
Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.
The verse reads, “Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, ...” Daniel began with the words, “then the king made Daniel” or “at that time the royal ruler, Nebuchadnezzar, increased and established Daniel whose name means God is my judge as”, “a great man” which means “a large, powerful and increased male human being”, “and gave him many great gifts” or “and provided, delivered and yielded to him, Daniel, large, powerful and domineering presents”. Daniel shared how the royal ruler caused “Daniel” to be a powerful male human being and provided him with a large amount of presents.
The verse goes on to say, “... and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.” Daniel continued with the words, “and made him ruler” which means “and cause him, Daniel, to exist as the power, dominion and master” “over the whole province of Babylon” or “above the entire district and region belonging to Babylon whose name means confusion (by mixing) and was known as Babel or Babylon, the ancient site and/or capital of Babylonia (modern Hillah) situated on the Euphrates”, “and chief of the governors” which means “and the captain, lord and master pertaining to the prefects” “over all the wise men” or “above each, every, the whole and everyone of the male human beings who were magicians and soothsayers” “of Babylon” which means “belonging to Babylon whose name means confusion (by mixing) and was known as Babel or Babylon, the ancient site and/or capital of Babylonia (modern Hillah) situated on the Euphrates”. Daniel said King Nebuchadnezzar made him to be the master above every part of the region of “Babylon” as well as the captain above every prefect and magician who lived in those areas.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how King Nebuchadnezzar exalted him to a ruling position not only over the land of Babylon, but also over the leaders within the land. No one else was able to reveal and interpret Nebuchadnezzar's “dream”, so Daniel was put in a place of great honor and responsibility. This, again, was God Almighty's design because He sets up rulers and takes them down. (See Daniel 2:21) All of these things lead to God's Son Jesus Christ coming into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of everyone, and God raised Him from the dead after three days so when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us as He elevates us to whatever positions of authority that He has in mind to fulfill His purposes and will in the world.
Next time Daniel shares how, “Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
