Nebuchadnezzar Falling on His Face - Daniel 2:46

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he spoke to King Nebuchadnezzar about his dream and said, “Forasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure, and in Daniel chapter two and verse forty-six Daniel shared how, “king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face” where we read,

Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshiped Daniel,

and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odors unto him.

The verse reads, “Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshiped Daniel, ... Daniel began with the words, “then the king Nebuchadnezzar” or “at that time the royal ruler and leader Nebuchadnezzar whose name means may Nebo protect the crown” “fell upon his face” which means “prostrated himself down on his countenance or visage”,“and worshiped Daniel” or “and did homage and gave adoration to Daniel whose name means God is my judge”. Daniel shared how “King Nebuchadnezzar” prostrated himself with his face to the ground and gave adoration to “Daniel”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odors unto him.” Daniel continued with the words, “and commanded” which means “and spoke, declared and ordered” “that they should offer an oblation” or “that they, the people who served King Nebuchadnezzar, ought to pour out and sacrifice a libation” “and sweet odors unto him” which means “and soothing, tranquillizing and pleasurable scents and smells to him, Daniel”. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar ordered that his servants sacrifice libations and pleasurable scents to “Daniel”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel about the reaction “King Nebuchadnezzar” had to the revelation and meaning of his “dream” through him. “King Nebuchadnezzar” prostrated himself before Daniel and began to give him adoration. He ordered that a sacrifice and pleasurable scents were to be offered to Daniel because he knew what Daniel told him was the truth. God used Daniel to share the future with King Nebuchadnezzar, and therein, He revealed the same to us. God is to be adored. God is to be worshiped because only He provided His Son Jesus to the world to be crucified on a cross for our sins. He raised Jesus from the dead after three days, and when we yield our lives to Him, repent of our sins and prostrate ourselves before Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth so that we place our trust in Him forever and evermore.

Next time Daniel shares how Nebuchadnezzar says, “Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
