John
the apostle wrote, “
And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the
sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve
stars: and she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and
pained to be delivered”,
and in chapter twelve and verse four of Revelation John shared how,
“there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red
dragon” where
we read:
And
there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red
dragon,
having
seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
The
verse reads, “And
there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red
dragon, ...”
John
began with the words, “and
there appeared”
which means “there was shown and allowed to be looked upon and
seen” “another
wonder”
or “an other or additional sign, miracle or token” “in
heaven”
which means “in the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of
order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and
other heavenly beings”; “and
behold” or
“lo and see” “a
great” which
means “a massive, abundant sized and huge”
“red dragon”
or “serpent which was the color of fire and flame and is a name for
Satan”. John saw another “sign” in “heaven”
which
was a large “fiery
red colored serpent”
and a “a Satan-like being”.
The
verse goes on to say, “...
having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.”
John
continued with the words, “having
seven heads”
which means “owning and possessing seven heads upon a body” “and
ten horns”
or “and ten apexes or points”, “and
seven crowns”
or “seven diadems or kingly ornaments” “upon
his heads”
which refers to “the dragon's
seven heads”.
John shared how this
“red dragon”
not only appeared with “seven
heads” and
“ten horns”,,
but also “seven kingly ornaments” upon them.
When
we consider John's words in this verse, we notice how awesome this
“red dragon” must have appeared. “Heads”
usually are representative of countries and “horns with crowns”
are usually the “rulers” within those countries. This”red
dragon” governed over “seven nations” who had “ten kings
or authorities”. Nonetheless, the idea was to reveal who this “red
dragon” would be and the role he would portray as this scene
with “the woman” unfolds. God is over all these things,
and we may be assured that His idea is to “save” people from
their “sins” through His Son Jesus Christ. This “red dragon”
is merely a pawn in God's domain, and as we discover more about him,
his “seven heads, ten horns and seven crowns”, let us keep
in mind, God is the Creator and authority over them all.
Next
time John shares how the “red
dragon's tail
drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the
earth ”
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
