John
the apostle shared how, “And
the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven,
saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the
kingdoms
of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever,
and the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats,
fell
upon their faces, and worshiped God, Saying, We give you thanks, O
Lord God Almighty, which are, and was, and are to come; because you
have taken to you your great power, and have reigned. And the nations
were angry, and your wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that
they should be judged, and that you should give reward unto your
servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear your
name, small and great; and should destroy them which destroy the
earth, and the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen
in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings,
and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.”,
and in chapter twelve and verse one of Revelation John shared
“there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the
sun” where
we read:
And
there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the
sun,
and
the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
The
verse reads, “
And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the
sun, ...”
John
began with the words, “and
there appeared”
which means “there was seen, beheld and shown” “a
great wonder”
or “a large and abundant sign, mark and token” “in
heaven”
which means “in the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of
order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and
other heavenly beings”; “a
woman”
or “a female whether virgin, married or widowed” “clothed”
or “arrayed and cast about” “with
the sun”
which means “with the rays of the sun or light of day”. John saw
a “great sign” within “heaven”
that consisted of “a
women”
who was “arrayed” with the “sun” in the sky.
The
verse goes on to say, “...
and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve
stars.”
John
continued with the words, “and
the moon”
which means “and the night light or moon in the sky” “under
her feet”
or “beneath and below the woman's feet”, “and
upon her head”
which means “and on the woman's supreme, chief and prominent part
of her body” “a
crown”
or “a mark, wreath or garland of royal or exalted rank” “of
twelve stars”
which refers to “which consisted of the twelve stars as though
strewn over the sky”. John also saw “the moon” beneath the
woman's “feet” and a “twelve
stars”
“crown”
upon her head.
When
we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we admire this next
vision given to him. This woman, which represents Israel, who was
overseen by God through Abraham (the sun) and Sarah ( the moon) who
bore the twelve tribes of Israel (the twelve stars). Israel is
special to God because they were to be the nation through whom the
entire world would know His Messiah Jesus, and as we consider this
“woman”, let everyone be aware that God desires to have a
relationship with them through His Son Jesus and wants to extend to
them “everlasting life” with Him.
Next
time John shares how the woman was, “with
child cried, travailing in birth”
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
