John
the apostle wrote, “And
there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the
sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve
stars: and she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and
pained to be delivered. He
continued, “And
there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red
dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his
heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and
did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman
which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as
it was born. And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all
nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and
to
his throne. And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a
place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two
hundred and
threescore days.”,
and in chapter twelve and verse seven of Revelation John shared how
there was
“war in heaven” where
we read:
And
there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the
dragon;
and
the dragon fought and his angels,
The
verse reads, “And
there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the
dragon;”
John
began with the words, “and
there was war”
which means “there existed a fight, battle, dispute, strife and
quarrel” “in
heaven”
or “within the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order
of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other
heavenly beings”: “Michael”
which means “who is like God” and was “the first of the chief
princes or archangels who is supposed to be the guardian angel of the
Israelites” “and
his angels”
or “and Michael's messengers, envoys and ones sent” “fought”
which means “carried on war against and battled” “the
dragon”
which refers to “the great serpent or Satan”. John observed “a
fierce battle” within “heaven”
where “Michael”
the
archangel went to battle against “Satan” and all his demons.
The
verse continues, “and
the dragon fought and his angels,”
John
added the words, “and
the dragon”
which means “and the great serpent or Satan” “fought”
or “carried on war against and battled” “and
his angels”
or “and Satan's demons”. John watched as the “dragon”
or “Satan” and his “demons” went to battle against “Michael”
and his “messengers, envoys and ones sent”.
When
we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we notice the “great
war” between “Michael” the archangel of God and
“Satan” and his demons who opposed God and His ways. This mighty
“heavenly” battle shall take place over Israel and her
offspring, and God shall be victorious though the battle shall rage.
This spiritual battle is indicative of the battle that rages over
every soul who lives as “Satan” desires to eternally damn them
all, and God through His Son Jesus is passionate about extending to
them “everlasting life”. May all who read these words consider
the “war” engaged over Israel, but also remember the “war”
over everyone alive.
Next
time John shares how the “dragon”
“prevailed
not
”
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
