John
the apostle wrote, “
And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the
sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve
stars: and she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and
pained to be delivered.” He
continued, “And
there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red
dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his
heads.”,
and in chapter twelve and verse four of Revelation John shared
how
the “red dragon's”“tail
drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the
earth” where
we read:
And
his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast
them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was
ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was
born.
The
verse reads, “And
his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast
them to the earth: ”
John
began with the words, “and
his tail drew”
which means “the red dragon's tail of his body dragged as of one
before the judge to prison and punishment” “the
third part”
or “one third” “of
the stars”
which means “the stars as strewn over the sky” “of
heaven”
which refers to “which belonged to the region above the sidereal
heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect
where God dwells and other heavenly beings ”, “and
did cast them”
or “and let go, scattered and cast the third part of the stars”
“to
the earth”
which means “toward the arable land, country, territory or region”.
John watched as this “red
dragon”
gathered one third of the “stars”
and threw them to the “earth”.
The
verse continues, “and
the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered,
for to devour her child as soon as it was born.”
John
added the words, “and
the dragon”
which means “and the serpent” “stood”
or “was put, placed, fixed and established” “before
the woman”
or “in front and in the presence of the woman” “which
was ready”
which refers to “who was on the point of, had in mind to and
thought” “to
be delivered”
or “to bring forth, bear and produce her child”, “for
to devour”
which means “to consume, eat, squander, waste and kill” “her
child”
which refers to “the woman's baby” “as
soon as”
or “immediately when and at the time” “it
was born”
which means “the baby was given birth, brought forth, produced and
delivered”. John watched as the “red dragon or Satan-like
creature” was in a ready position to “kill” this woman's child
immediately after his birth.
When
we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we understand the “red
dragon” to be Satan who took one third of the angels with him
to the earth when He was banished to the earth. The “woman”
represents Israel who bore the Messiah “Jesus” which is why the
“red dragon or Satan” desired to “kill” Him as soon as He was
born. (See Matthew 2::16-18) Though Satan and all His demons were
attempting to destroy God's Savior Jesus, they failed and now every
person who receives Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”
shall not only be “saved” from these things, but shall inherit
“everlasting life”. May all who read of this “red
dragon” and the “Woman with child” take heed.
Next
time John shares how the “woman”
“brought
forth a man child
”
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
