As
John continued to share about the events which will occur during the
tribulation, He wrote about the antichrist, the false prophets and
angels who were involved in the reaping of the harvest of believers
who received the Lord Jesus during that time. In
chapter fifteen and verse one of Revelation John wrote, “And
I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels
having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of
God. And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them
that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and
over his mark, and
over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the
harps of God. And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and
the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are
your works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are
your ways, you King of saints”,
and in chapter fifteen and verse four of Revelation John continued
their songs as they asked, “who
shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name?”
where
we read:
Who
shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name? for you
only are
holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for your
judgments are made manifest.
The
verse reads, “Who
shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name?”
John
began with the words, “who
shall not fear you”
which means “what person whether male or female will not reverence,
be in awe of and be afraid of God”, “O
Lord”
or “the One to whom a person or thing belongs about which he has
power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah”,
“and glorify”
which means “and praise, extol, magnify, celebrate and honor”
“your
name”
or “everything in God which His name covers including the thoughts
or feelings which are aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and
remembering”? The rhetorical question posed within this
“song”
is “who could avoid being in awe, reverence, fear and glorify”
Almighty God?
The
verse continues, “for
you
only are
holy: for all nations shall come and worship before you; for your
judgments are made manifest.”
John
added the words, “for
you”
which means “because and since God” “only”
or
“solely, without help and alone” “are
holy”
which means “are pure, morally blameless, undefiled by sin, free
from wickedness and pious”: “for”
or “because and since” “all
nations”
which refers to “each, every, the whole and everyone of the
companies, troops, multitudes of individuals, tribes and people
groups” “shall
come”
or “will be present, arrive and seek intimacy” “and
worship”
which means “and adore, show homage and reverence to and prostrate
themselves” “before
you”
or “in front and in the presence of God”; “for”
which means “because and since” “your
judgments”
or “God's judicial decisions, sentences, righteous deeds and acts”
“are
made manifest”
which means “are made known, revealed, made actual and realized”.
The “song”
also proclaims God to be the “only”
One who is “pure, undefiled and without sin”, and “each and
every” people group will come to “worship” Him because of His
“righteous judgments”.
When
we think through upon John's words in this verse, we see how God is
glorified because of His “holiness” and “righteousness”, and
no one will be exempt from “worshiping” Him. Every people, tribe,
tongue and language shall bow before the King of Kings and Lord of
Lords, Jesus, and all of creation shall honor Him. The looming
question is “when”? Will it be now while there is opportunity to
receive God's Son Jesus Christ as a personal “Savior and Lord”,
or will it be when all the world bows in reverence and honor to Him
regardless of their previous beliefs? May today be the day everyone
reading these words submit themselves to the Lordship of Jesus.
Next
time John shares how they continued the song with the question,
“who shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name?”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
