John
the apostle shared how, “the
seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying,
The kingdoms of this world are become the
kingdoms
of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever,
and the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats,
fell
upon their faces, and worshiped God,”,
and in chapter eleven and verse seventeen of Revelation John shared
how all the people
“we give you thanks, O Lord God Almighty” where
we read:
Saying,
We give you thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which are, and was, and are
to come;
because
you have taken to you your great power, and have reigned.
The
verse reads, “Saying,
We give you thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which are, and was, and are
to come;”
John
began with the word, “saying”
which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “we
give you thanks”
or “the twenty four elders offer and bestow upon God gratefulness,
gratitude and thankfulness”, “O
Lord”
which means “O one to whom a person or thing belongs, about which
he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the
Messiah” “God
Almighty”
which refers to “the Godhead and trinity which is comprised of God
the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit who is omnipotent,
holds sway over all things and is ruler of all”, “which
are”
or “who exists and has being now and at the present time”, “and
was”
which means “who exists and has being in the past”, “and
are to come”
or “and who exists and has being in the future”. John heard the
twenty-four elders declaring “gratitude” to Almighty God who
exists in the eternal which consists of the past, present and future
all at one time.
The
verse continues, “because
you have taken to you your great power, and have reigned.”
John
added the word, “because”
which means “since and on account that” “you
have taken to you”
or “God has laid hold of, claimed, procured and obtained” “your
great power”
which means “God's almighty, abundant and awesome strength, ability
and might”, “and
have reigned”
or “has exercised kingly power, governance, influence and control”.
The “twenty
four elders”
recognized God's rule over all the kingdoms of the world and is King
over them.
When
we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we notice the “twenty
four elders'” declaration of God's ability and power to rule
and reign over all the world. God created the world and its
inhabitants, and He is the rightful ruler over all of them. God's
desire is to have a relationship with people through His Son Jesus
Christ, and He is certain to reign in their lives one way or another.
Some will oppose God, but He shall rule over them, and others will
submit to Him, and He shall rule over them. God has “great
power”, and He shall use and employ it to govern over all the
things He has created and made.
Next
time John shares how the “the
nations were angry, and your wrath is come”
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
