Jesus to the Temple Again - John 7:14

The apostle John wrote how Jesus told His brothers, “Go you up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come. When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, No; but he deceives the people. Howbeit no man spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews”, and in chapter seven and verse fourteen of his book, John shared how, “Jesus went up into the temple, and taught” where we read:

Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.

The verse reads,Now about the midst of the feast ...” John began with the words, “now about in the midst” or “even at this time toward the middle or the mid-point” “of the feast” which means “belonging to the festival or holy-day” the following happened. John shared how the timing of the next event was during the middle of the “festival or holy-day”.

The verse goes on to say, “... Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.” John continued with the words, “Jesus went up” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation ascended and came forth” “into the temple” or “into the sacred worship place in Jerusalem”, “and taught” which means “and held discourses, discharged the office of a teacher, imparted instruction and instilled doctrine”. John shared how “Jesus” went into the “sacred worship place” to “hold discourses and instill doctrine”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus waited until the “middle” of the “festival” before He entered the Judaean area. Jesus sent His brothers ahead of Him, but the “midst of the feast” was the right timing for Him to begin instructing the people. Jesus had His timing and purpose for carrying out the plan of “salvation” for mankind, and He followed through in every detail. God desires a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they understand His timing is perfect, they will yield themselves to Him as the “Lord” who shall direct their lives according to His timing and will.

Next time John shares how the Jews ask, “how knows this man letters, having never learned?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
