The Simple Inherit Folly - Proverbs 14:18

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, He that is soon angry deals foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated”, and in chapter fourteen and verse eighteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the simple inherit folly” where we read,

The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

The verse begins, “The simple inherit folly:” Solomon began with the words, “the simple” or “people whether male or female who are naive and simplistic” “inherit folly” which means “possess, acquire and are allotted silliness and foolishness”. Solomon shared how people who are naive acquire silliness and foolishness.

The verse continues, “but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.” Solomon added the words, “but the prudent are crowned” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover people whether male or female who are subtle, shrewd, cunning, crafty and sensible exists as surrounded and encircled” “with knowledge” which means “by the use of perception, skill, discernment, understanding and wisdom”. Solomon said people who are shrewd and cunning are surrounded by perception and discernment.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon there is a difference between the consequences for people who are “naive” and those who are “prudent”. Naive people are allotted foolishness, and shrewd people are encircled with discernment and understanding. God's desire is to have an intimate personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and surround us with shrewdness and understanding as we live before Him and others.

Next time Solomon says, “the evil bow before the good”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
