The Simple Believes Every Word - Proverbs 14:15

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself”, and in chapter fourteen and verse fifteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the simple believes every word” where we read,

The simple believes every word: but the prudent man looks well to his going.

The verse begins, “The simple believes every word:” Solomon began with the words, “the simple” or “the person whether male or female who is foolish and naive” “believes every word” which means “supports, confirms, upholds and has faith within each, the whole, all and everyone of the speeches, declarations and utterances of advice”. Solomon shared how people who are foolish and naive have confidence within all the speeches and utterances that are spoken.

The verse goes on to say, “but the prudent man looks well to his going.” Solomon continued with the words, “but the prudent man” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover people whether male or female who are subtle, shrewd, crafty and sensible” “looks well to his going” which means “discerns, understands, considers and perceives their steps”. Solomon said a person who is shrewd and sensible discerns and seeks to understand their steps.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who are naive trust in everything they are told, however, a person who is shrewd carefully seeks to discern the steps of their lives. God wants us to conduct our lives in a wise manner, and when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins to be our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us by His Holy Spirit to be “prudent” and look well to our ways. We may hear advice from others, but if we are wise we will always examine what they have to say in light of God's direction for our lives.

Next time Solomon says, “a wise man fears, and departs from evil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
