In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, and after calling upon his magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers who were unable to tell him what his dream meant, Nebuchadnezzar said, “Thus were the visions of my head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great. The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth. The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it” and in chapter four and verse thirteen of his book Daniel said Nebuchadnezzar shared about, “a watcher and an holy one” where we read,
I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed,
and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;
The verse reads, “I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, …” Daniel began with the words, “I saw in the visions” or “I, King Nebuchadnezzar, perceived, discerned, distinguished and observed within the look, sight and appearance” “of my head” which means “belonging to my, King Nebuchadnezzar’s, physical head or mind” “upon my bed” or “on my, King Nebuchadnezzar’s, place of lying or couch”. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar continued to share his “dream” which was according to the appearance within his mind and as he reclined upon his place of lying.
The verse continues, “… and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;” Daniel added the words, “and, behold” which means “and lo, look and consider”, “a watcher” or “a wakeful one or angel” “and a holy one” which means “and a spiritual being which was separate, sacred and pure” “came down from heaven” or “descended apart from the sky, atmosphere and sidereal heaven where God dwells and other spiritual beings”. Daniel said King Nebuchadnezzar told him that he observed a wakeful one or angel descended from the sky who was sacred and pure.
When we meditate upon Daniel’s words in this verse, we discover how King Nebuchadnezzar continued to share his “dream” as he observed an angel and pure one descending from the sky. We can imagine King Nebuchadnezzar’s wonder at this part of the “dream” as he was now seeing into the spiritual world. Jesus said, “God is a spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth” (See John 4:24), and because mankind had sin, error and wrong in their lives, God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone, and He was raised from the dead after three days. When we submit our lives to Him, we receive God’s “holy one” and our sins will be forgiven and we shall receive His everlasting life. God loves us, and because He knows all things, He knew about this “dream” of King Nebuchadnezzar which would eventually lead to the coming of His Son Jesus.
Next time Daniel shares how Nebuchadnezzar said the watcher, “cried aloud, and said thus, hew down the tree”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
