In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared these words, “I thought it good to show the signs and wonders that the high God has wrought toward me. How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation”, and in chapter four and verse four of his book Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar said, “I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in my house” where we read,
I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace:
The verse reads, “I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in my house, ...” Daniel began with the words, “I Nebuchadnezzar” or “I, Nebuchadnezzar whose name means ‘may Nebo protect the crown’ and was the great king of Babylon who captured Jerusalem and carried Judah captive” “was at rest” which means “existed as secure and at ease” “in my house” or “within my habitation, abode and dwelling place”. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar recalled when he was secure and at ease within his home.
The verse continues, “... and flourishing in my palace:” Daniel added the words, “and flourishing” which means “and successful, affluent and wealthy” “in my palace” or “within my, King Nebuchadnezzar’s, temple or place of a king”. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar was affluent and successful within his royal castle or mansion.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how King Nebuchadnezzar continued to tell his story to the people of the world. He noted how he was secure and at ease within his home and successful within his royal mansion. We shall learn more about King Nebuchadnezzar’s story throughout this chapter, but for now let us imagine how King Nebuchadnezzar seemed to have everything a person might desire. Power, money, security and success were all experienced by King Nebuchadnezzar, however, these would become insufficient for his eternal life. God wants to give us eternal, age abiding life, whose value exceeds all the other valuables in the world. We receive forgiveness of sins, everlasting life and the power of the Holy Spirit when we receive God’s Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the dead after three days as our personal “Savior and Lord”. God loves us, and His desire is for us to receive eternal blessings which shall never fade away, and they are gained through faith and trust in His Son Jesus.
Next time King Nebuchadnezzar says, “I saw a dream which made me afraid”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
