The King Grown and Strong - Daniel 4:22

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream about a tree, and Daniel began to tell him the meaning of it by declaring, The tree that you saw, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth; Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation”, and in chapter four and verse twenty-two of his book Daniel said, “It is you, O king, that are grown and become strong” of the tree where we read,

It is you, O king, that are grown and become strong: for your greatness is grown,

and reaches unto heaven, and your dominion to the end of the earth.

The verse reads, “It is you, O king, that are grown and become strong: for your greatness is grown, …” Daniel began with the words, “it is you” or “it, the tree, exists as you, Nebuchadnezzar”, “O king” which means “O royal ruler and leader”, “that are grown”  or “who exist as increased” “and become strong” which means “and came to be mighty and powerful”: “for your greatness is grown” or “because, since and on account that your, King Nebuchadnezzar’s, increase exists as exceedingly abundant and enlarged”. Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar that he was similar to the “tree” that grew and became mighty, because his increase was exceedingly abundant.

The verse continues, “and reaches unto heaven, and your dominion to the end of the earth.” Daniel added the words, “and reaches unto heaven” which means “and attains and extends to the sky”, and your dominion or “and your, King Nebuchadnezzar’s, rule, reign and sovereignty” “to the end of the earth” which means “to extremity and finality of the world”. Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar his “greatness” extended to the sky and his sovereignty was over all the world.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar that the tree represented him and his kingdom. King Nebuchadnezzar was the most powerful man in the world, and his influence was worldwide. The world knew him, and his power extended to the sky. God gave him this position of authority, and we shall see what God does with him later in this chapter. God raises up leaders, and He takes them down. Regardless of how powerful a person becomes, they are not more powerful than God. God wants us to acknowledge His power and might in our lives, and He is the Only One who sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. He raised Jesus from the dead after three days, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us so we recognize all powers and authorities are completely under His control.

Next time Daniel tells King Nebuchadnezzar, “the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
