Bring the Wise Men of Babylon - Daniel 4:6

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar said, “I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace. I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me”, and in chapter four and verse six of his book Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar said, “bring in all the wise men of Babylon” where we read,

Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me,

that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.

The verse reads, “Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, ... Daniel began with the words, “therefore made I a decree” or “wherefore, then and on this account I, Nebuchadnezzar, declared and proclaimed a directive and order” “to bring in all the wise men” which means “to carry and lead each, every, the whole and every one of the sagacious, intelligent, clever and learned male human beings” “before me” or “in front and in the presence of me, Nebuchadnezzar”. Daniel shared how Nebuchadnezzar ordered that every intelligent and learned male was to brought into his presence.

The verse continues, “... that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.Daniel added the words, “that they might make known unto me” which means “so they, the wise men, could inform, reveal and certify to me, Nebuchadnezzar” “the interpretation” or “the explanation or meaning” “of the dream” which means “pertaining to the mental imagery or vision”. Daniel said Nebuchadnezzar called for the “wise men” so they could explain the meaning of his “dream” to him.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how King Nebuchadnezzar once again called upon his “wise men” to reveal the meaning of his dream to him. They failed the last time, (See Daniel 2) but they were beckoned to do the same with this new dream. God knew the meaning of the “dream”, and He was involved. We shall see more about the efforts of these “wise men” and Daniel in our next verses, but for now, let us imagine what it must have been like to have the responsibility to interpret our leader’s dreams. God is omniscient, and there is nothing that He does not know. He knows we need a “Savior” from the penalty of death for the  sin which is in our lives, therefore He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead so when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and given His Holy Spirit who will wisely guide us into all truth according to His perfect will and purpose for our lives.

Next time Daniel says, “then came in all the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
