The Tree Nebuchadnezzar Saw - Daniel 4:20

 In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream about a tree, and after declaring it to his wise men he said to Daniel, “This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now you, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but you are able: for the spirit of the holy gods is in you. Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble you. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate you, and the interpretation thereof to your enemies”, and in chapter four and verse twenty of his book Daniel shared with King Nebuchadnezzar about, “the tree that you saw” where we read,

The tree that you saw, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven,

 and the sight thereof to all the earth;

The verse reads, “The tree that you saw, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, … Daniel began with the words, “the tree that you saw” or “the physical tree that you, King Nebuchadnezzar, perceived, noticed, discerned and observed”, “which grew” which means “that increased in size”, “and was strong”  or “and existed as mighty, powerful and firm”, “whose height” which means “that had an altitude that” “reached unto the heaven” or “ascended or extended to the sky”. Daniel shared how he told King Nebuchadnezzar that the “tree” he observed that increased in size, was powerful and mighty and had an altitude that extended into the sky was also according to the following.

The verse continues, “… and the sight thereof to all the earth;” Daniel added the words, “and the sight thereof” which means “and the view and visibility of the tree” to all the earth or “extended to each, the whole and every part of the territory and world”. Daniel continued to refer to the “tree” in King Nebuchadnezzar’s “dream” as he confirmed that the visibility of the “tree” was extended all over the world.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Daniel began to share the meaning of King Nebuchadnezzar’s “dream” by repeating what the king said he observed within it. The “tree” seen by King Nebuchadnezzar increased in size, was mighty, had an altitude that extended into the sky and was able to be viewed all over the world. Daniel will share more about the meaning of the “dream” in our next verses, but for now let us consider his position before King Nebuchadnezzar and the responsibility he had to give the meaning of this “dream”. God gave Daniel this ability and position, and He desires to use us in His Kingdom as well when we surrender our lives to Him thru His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the grave after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the power of His Holy Spirit to be His witnesses in this world to share with others about the saving grace of Almighty God.

Next time Daniel tells King Nebuchadnezzar about, “the leaves and fruit of the tree”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
