In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, and Daniel said, “This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king. That they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will. And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; your kingdom shall be sure unto you, after that you shall have known that the heavens do rule. Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of your tranquillity. All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar”, and in chapter four and verse twenty-nine of his book Daniel began to share what happened, “at the end of twelve months” where we read,
At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.
The verse reads, “At the end of twelve months …” Daniel began with the words, “at the end” or “at the completion” “of twelve months” which means “pertaining to twelve months of a year”. Daniel began to share what happened at the completion of “twelve months” after the prophetic words given to King Nebuchadnezzar.
The verse goes on to say, “… he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.” Daniel continued this verse with the words, “he walked in the palace” which means “he, King Nebuchadnezzar, ambled about within the royal mansion” “of the kingdom” or “pertaining to the royal rule and reign” “of Babylon” which means “belonging to Babylon whose name means confusion (by mixing) and was known as Babel or Babylon the ancient site and/or capital of Babylonia (modern Hillah) situated on the Euphrates”. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar was ambling about in his royal mansion while reigning in “Babylon”.
When we consider Daniel’s words in this verse, we discover how King Nebuchadnezzar was making his way by ambling through his royal mansion while he reigned in Babylon. We shall see more of Daniel’s recounting of these events in our next verses, but for now let us be aware in our minds of the surroundings of King Nebuchadnezzar. He was the most powerful person in the world, and He was wealthy. What he said, became the law. He had need of nothing in his own thoughts. God will deal with Him as we shall see, however, we should consider that every person has their areas of weakness and sin. (See Romans 3:10;23)God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and He raised Him from the dead after three days so when we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us in alignment with Him through the power of His Holy Spirit working in us.
Next time Daniel shares how Nebuchadnezzar says, “is not this great Babylon, the that I have built”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
