In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar said, “I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace. I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me. Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream”, and “Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying, O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof”, and in chapter four and verse ten of his book Daniel shared how Nebuchadnezzar said he saw, “a tree in the midst of the earth” where we read,
Thus were the visions of my head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.
The verse reads, “Thus were the visions of my head in my bed;” Daniel began with the words, “thus were the visions” or “the following existed as the look, sight and appearance”, “of my head” which means “belonging to my, King Nebuchadnezzar’s, physical head” “in my bed” or “within my, King Nebuchadnezzar’s, place of lying or couch”. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar began to share what the look and sight was within his mind while he was within his place of lying.
The verse continues, “I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.” Daniel added with the words, “I saw” which means “I, King Nebuchadnezzar, perceived, noticed, distinguished, discerned and observed”, “and behold a tree” or “and lo, look and consider a physical tree” “in the midst of the earth” which means “within the middle and center of the world”, “and the height thereof was great” or “and the altitude of the tree was exceedingly high or tall”. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar said he observed and considered a “tree” within the center of the world that was exceedingly tall.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Daniel the beginning of the “dream” of King Nebuchadnezzar. He observed an extremely tall “tree” that was coming from the center of the world. We shall see more about this “dream” in our next few verses, but for now let us keep in mind that God was behind all of this imagery. God had a plan for the salvation of mankind through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of everyone, and when He raised Him from the grave after three days, He made the way when we put our faith and trust in Him to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and taught the value of God’s Divine purpose for “dreams, visions and even pagan kings” which are given at His perfect will.
Next time Daniel shares how Nebuchadnezzar said, “the tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
