In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar said, “I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace. I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me. Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream. Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof”, and in chapter four and verse eight of his book Daniel shared how Nebuchadnezzar said, “Daniel came in” where we read,
But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,
The verse reads, “But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods:” Daniel began with the words, “but at the last” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover finally” “Daniel came in before me” which means “Daniel, whose name means God is my judge, entered and approached in front and in the presence of me, King Nebuchadnezzar”, “whose name was Belteshazzar” or “who was known by the name of Belteshazzar which means lord of the straightened treasure”, “according to the name” which means “in keeping with the name” “of my god” or “pertaining to my, Nebuchadnezzar’s, deity”, “and in whom is the spirit” which means “and within whom exists the mind” “of the holy gods” or “belonging to the sacred, separate and pure deities”. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar said finally “Daniel” appeared before him who was renamed by Nebuchadnezzar, Belteshazzar, which was a reference to his own deity. Nebuchadnezzar recognized that “Daniel” possessed the mind of the sacred and pure God within him.
The verse continues,, “and before him I told the dream, saying, …” Daniel added the words, “and before him” which means “and in front and in the presence of him, Daniel” “I told the dream” or “I, Nebuchadnezzar, related and shared the mental imagery or vision”, “saying” which means “uttering declaring and proclaiming” the words in our next verse.. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar told his “dream” to him by declaring the words in our next verse.
When we think though the words in this verse, we learn how Daniel went in front of King Nebuchadnezzar who referred to him by his Babylonian name “Belteshazzar”, and he acknowledged that within “Daniel” was the mind of the pure and sacred God, so he told Daniel his “dream”. Once again Daniel was in a position of great importance in the middle of this pagan king in a pagan country. God was aware of Daniel’s place and position, and because God desires to save every person from their sins, He sent “Daniel” into the presence of Nebuchadnezzar to interpret his “dream”. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when He raised Him from the dead after three days, He made the way for us through belief and trust in Jesus to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and used like “Daniel” in His Kingdom according to His Divine purpose and plan.
Next time Daniel shares how Nebuchadnezzar instructs him, “tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
