In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown into the fiery furnace because they would not bow to or worship the golden image King Nebuchadnezzar set up, and afterward “the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them. Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort”, and in chapter three and verse thirty of his book Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar, “promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego” where we read,
Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.
The verse reads, “Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ...” Daniel began with the words, “then the king promoted” or “at that time the royal ruler and leader, Nebuchadnezzar, prospered and advance” “Shadrach”whose name means “royal or the great scribe”, “Meshach” or “guest of the king”, “and Abednego” whose name means “servant of Nebo”. Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar advanced “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego” to great positions of authority.
The verse continues, “... in the province of Babylon.” Daniel added the words, “in the province” which means “within the district, region and territory” “of Babylon” or “belonging to Babylon whose name means confusion (by mixing) and was Babel or Babylon, the ancient site and/or capital of Babylonia (modern Hillah) situated on the Euphrates”. Daniel shared how “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego” were promoted to positions of authority within the region of “Babylon”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego” were advanced in positions all over the region of “Babylon”. “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego” were faithful in their commitment to God, and God advanced them in positions of authority all over “Babylon”. God wants us to be faithful to Him, and our relationship with Him begins when we put our faith and trust in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the grave after three days. When we submit to Him, God will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and advance us in His Kingdom according to His Divine purpose and plan for our lives.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see King Nebuchadnezzar speaking to, “all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
