In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, and Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar that the dream meant he would be driven away from men, eating grass with the animals and have the night due fall upon him for seven seasons until he realized that God is in control of all people. “All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar” and “at the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon. The king spoke, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty? While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from you”, and in chapter four and verse thirty-two of his book Daniel shared how the voice said, “they shall drive you from men” where we read,
And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will.
The verse reads, “And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field:” Daniel began with the words of the voice, “and they shall drive you from men” or “and the people surrounding Nebuchadnezzar will chase away and expel you, King Nebuchadnezzar, separate and apart from people”, “and your dwelling” which means “and your, King Nebuchadnezzar’s, habitation, abode and place of living” “shall be with the beasts” or “will exist alongside and accompanying the animals” “of the field” which means “belonging to the plains”. Daniel shared how the voice from heaven said King Nebuchadnezzar was chased away from his kingly rule to live with the animals in the plains.
The verse continues, “they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will.” Daniel added the words, “they shall make you” which means “those in charge of King Nebuchadnezzar will cause you, King Nebuchadnezzar” “to eat grass as oxen” or “to consume and devour herbage similar to oxen”, “and seven times” which means “and seven seasons or years” “shall pass over you” or “will go away and beyond you, King Nebuchadnezzar”, “until you know the most High rules” which means “till such time that you, King Nebuchadnezzar, certify, are informed and understand the highest and Supreme God has mastery, authority and reign” “in the kingdom of men” or “within the royal reign, kingship and authority belonging to people”, “and gives it to whomsoever he will” which means “and grants, bestows and assigns it, the royal reign and authority, to whatever person that he desires”. Daniel shared how the voice said King Nebuchadnezzar was forced to consume herbage similar to “oxen” while “seven” seasons were to go beyond him and till such time that he understood that the highest Supreme God has authority over people and assigns authority to whatever person he desires.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how the words that he prophesied over King Nebuchadnezzar were fulfilled after he made his boastful statement. The voice from heaven told King Nebuchadnezzar he was to be chased away from people and would consume herbage like “oxen” until “seven seasons” went by and he understood that God “rules” above all the leaders of the world. God gives people their power and assigns positions of leadership to whatever person He wills. God loves us, and He is so completely in control that He offered His Son Jesus who died on the cross and was raised from the dead after three days so when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide His Holy Spirit to help us know He is in control of all leaders regardless of how great they think themselves to be.
Next time Daniel says, “the same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
