Magicians, Astrologers, Chaldeans and Soothsayers - Daniel 4:7

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar said, “I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace. I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me. Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream, and in chapter four and verse seven of his book Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar said, “then came in all the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers” where we read,

Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

The verse reads, Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: Daniel began with the words, “then came in” or “at that time entered and approached” “the magicians” which means “diviners, astrologers and writers and engravers of the occult”, “the astrologers” or “necromancers, conjurers and enchanters”, “the Chaldeans” which means “and the inhabitants of Chaldea who were living on the lower Euphrates and Tigris rivers”, “and the soothsayers” or “the seers, diviners, fortune-tellers or prognosticators”:. Daniel shared how “the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans and soothsayers” entered the place where Nebuchadnezzar was located.

The verse goes on to say, and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.Daniel continued with the words, “and I told the dream before them” which means “and I, Nebuchadnezzar, related and spoke the mental imagery in front and in the presence of them, the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans and soothsayers”: but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof. or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, “the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans and soothsayers”, in no way or manner revealed the meaning of the dream to me, Nebuchadnezzar”. Daniel shared how Nebuchadnezzar said he related his “dream” to the “wise men”, however, they were unable to explain to him the meaning of it.

When we meditate upon Daniel’s words in this verse, we discover through Daniel how these “wise men” were unable to give King Nebuchadnezzar the interpretation of his dream. Once again, they failed in their duties. This was by God’s Divine will because His servant Daniel was to be the one to reveal the meaning. God was at work bringing a remedy to the problem mankind has with death because of sin. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. (See Romans 6:23) This is why God’s Son Jesus was sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone and to be raised from the dead after three days. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us into all truth by His Holy Spirit who knew these “dreams” of Nebuchadnezzar would lead to the salvation of all who believe.

Next time Daniel shares how, “Daniel came in”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
