Alammelech, Amad, and Misheal - Joshua 19:26

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “the fifth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families. And their border was Helkath, and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-six of Joshua we learn how their border included, “Alammelech, Amad, and Misheal where we read,

And Alammelech, and Amad, and Misheal; 

and reaches to Carmel westward, and to Shihorlibnath;

The verse reads, “And Alammelech, and Amad, and Misheal;” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and Alammelech” whose name means “oak of the king” and was “a town or site in Asher”, “was Amad” whose name means “enduring” and was “a town in Asher on the border between Alammelech and Misheal”, “and Misheal” whose name means “entreaty” and was “a town in the territory of Asher allotted to the Gershonite Levites”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Alammelech, Amad and Misheal” were among the “cities” given to the “tribe of Asher”. 

 

The verse goes on to say, “and reaches to Carmel westward, and to Shihorlibnath;” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and reached to Carmel westward” which means “and extends to and stretches out to Carmel whose name means ‘garden land’ and was a town in the mountains on the west side of the Dead Sea and south of Hebron in a western direction”, “and to Shihorlibnath” whose name means “blackness of whiteness” and was “a stream in Asher”. Joshua or the writer said the border to the land provided to “Asher” extended to the west to “Carmel and Shihorlibnath”. 

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn more about the border of the territory allotted to the people of “Asher”. “Alammelech, Amad, Misheal, toward Carmel in a western direction to “Shihorlinath” were all included in the places that the “tribe of Asher” would raise their families and worship God. God desires to have a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to observe that truth so our lives will be pleasing to Him wherever He places us in the world. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)
