In the book of Joshua, we learned how the promise land was being distributed to the tribes of Israel, “and the seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families, and the coast of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Irshemesh, and Shaalabbin, and Ajalon, and Jethlah, and Elon, and Thimnathah, and Ekron”, and in chapter nineteen and verse forty-four of Joshua we learn about, “Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath” where we read,
And Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath,
The verse reads, “And Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and Eltekeh” whose name means “let God spew you out” and was “the most northerly of the five principal cities of the Philistines; located in the lowlands of Judah and later given to Dan”, “and Gibberthon” whose name means “mound” and was “a Philistine town in Dan allocated to the Kohathite Levites”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Eltekeh and Gibbethon” were part of the land that was allotted to the “tribe of Dan”.
The verse goes on to say, “… and Baalath,” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and Baalath” whose name means “mistress” and was “a town in Dan”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Baalath” was included in the dwelling places that were given to the people of “Dan”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover three more places that were given to the “tribe of Dan”. “Eltekeh, Gibbethon, and Baalath” were locations within the promise land where the “tribe of Dan” would provide for their families and worship God. God loves to provide for us, (See Philippians 4:19) and when we receive His Son Jesus who came into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised from the dead after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and teach us to live in a manner that is pleasing to Him. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)
Next time we learn about, “Jehud, and Beneberak, and Gathrimmon”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
