Jezreel, and Jokdeam, and Zanoah - Joshua 15:57

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “this is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families” which included among others Ashdod with her towns and her villages, Gaza with her towns and her villages, unto the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border thereof. And in the mountains, Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh, and Dannah, and Kirjathsannah, which is Debir, and Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages: Arab, and Dumah, and Eshean, and Janum, and Bethtappuah, and Aphekah, and Humtah, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, and Zior; nine cities with their villages, and Jezreel, and Jokdeam, and Zanoah”, and in chapter fifteen and verse fifty-seven of Joshua we learn about, “Cain, Gibeah, and Timnah” where we read,

Cain, Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages:

The verse reads, Cain, Gibeah, and Timnah; Joshua or the writer began with the word, “Cain" whose name means “possession” and was “the area between southern Palestine and the mountains of Sinai”, “Gibeah” whose name means “hill” and was “a city in the mountain district of Judah”, “and Timnah” which means “portion” and was “a town on the northern boundary of Judah later assigned to Dan”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Cain, Gibeah and Timnah” were also among the “cities” given to the “tribe of Judah”

The verse goes on to say, ten cities with their villages:Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “ten cities” which means “ten dwelling places or places of waking” “with their villages” or “alongside and accompanied by their, the ten cities’, settled abodes or towns”. Joshua or the writer said there were “ten” dwelling places within this area alongside their settled abodes that were given to the people within the clan of “Judah”

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover three more locations that were assigned to the “tribe of Judah”. “Cain, Gibeah and Timnah” among “ten” settled abodes were also to be occupied by the people of “Judah”. God was faithful to His promise to provide land to the people of Israel, and “Judah” was receiving their portion of the inheritance. God wants to provide eternally for everyone, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days so when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and fill us with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth. Let all who read these words submit to Jesus and receive forgiveness and eternal life from Him. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8: Ephesians 1:18)

Next time Joshua or the writer shares about, “Halhul, Bethzur, and Gedor”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
