Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim, and Rabbah - Joshua 15:60

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “this is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families” which included among others Jezreel, and Jokdeam, and Zanoah, Cain, Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages: Halhul, Bethzur, and Gedor,  and Maarath, and Bethanoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages:”, and in chapter fifteen and verse sixty of Joshua we learn about, “Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim, and Rabbah” where we read,

Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim, and Rabbah; two cities with their villages:

The verse reads, “Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim, and Rabbah;” Joshua or the writer began with the word, “Kirjathbaal" whose name means “city of Baal” and was “a city on the northern boundary of Judah and on the western and southern boundaries of Benjamin”, “which is Kirjathjearim” also known as “Kirjath-baal and Baalah” whose name means “city of forests” and was “a city on the northern boundary of Judah and on the western and southern boundaries of Benjamin”, “and Rabbah” whose name means “great” and was “the capital city of the Ammonites located east of the Jordan”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim and Rabbah” were included the names of the “cities” that were allotted to the “tribe of Judah” within the promise land.

The verse goes on to say, two cities with their villages:” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “two cities” which means “two dwelling places or places of waking” “with their villages” or “alongside and accompanied by their, the two cities’, settled abodes and towns”. Joshua or the writer said “two” dwelling places accompanied by their settled abodes were added to the places which were given to the people of “Judah”

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how “Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim, and Rabbah” along with their settled abodes were included in the lands which were given to the “tribe of Judah”. God’s provision within the promise land was being distributed according to His desire and will, and the people of “Judah” were to raise their families in the acknowledgment and worship of Him going forward. God wants us to have a personal relationship with Him as well, and when we submit to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with his Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and give us the ability to live according to that truth so we are a blessing to Him wherever we are in the world. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Psalm 34:1)

Next time Joshua or the writer shares about, “Betharabah, Middin, and Secacah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
