In the book of Joshua, we learned how the promise land was being distributed to the tribes of Israel, “and the seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families, and the coast of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Irshemesh, and Shaalabbin, and Ajalon, and Jethlah, and Elon, and Thimnathah, and Ekron, and Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath”, and in chapter nineteen and verse forty-five of Joshua we learn about, “Jehud, and Beneberak, and Gathrimmon” where we read,
And Jehud, and Beneberak, and Gathrimmon.
The verse reads, “And Jehud, and Beneberak, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and Jehud” whose name means “beauty” and was “a town in Dan, located between Baalath and Bene-berak and eight miles east of Joppa”, “and Beneberak” whose name means “son of lightning” and was “a city in Dan”. Joshua or the writer added “Jehud and Beneberak” to the list of “cities” that were assigned to the “tribe of Dan”.
The verse continues, “… and Gathrimmon.” Joshua or the writer added the words, “and Gathrimmon” whose name means “winepress of the pomegranate” and was “a city given out of the tribe of Dan to the Levites, situated on the plain of Philistia, apparently not far from Joppa”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Gathrimmon” was included in the dwelling places given to the people of “Dan”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn about three more locations within the promise land that were provided to the “tribe of Dan”. “Jehud, Beneberak and Gathrimmon” became a portion of the territory in which the people of “Dan” would raise their families and worship God. God loves to provide for people, and He gave His Only Begotten Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised from the dead after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and give us the ability to live according to that truth in a manner that is pleasing to Him. (See John 3:16: Acts 1:8; Ephesians 2:8-9)
Next time we learn about, “Mejarkon, and Rakkon, with the border before Japho”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
