In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families” whose “border went over from there toward Luz, to the side of Luz, which is Bethel, southward; and the border descended to Atarothadar, near the hill that lies on the south side of the nether Bethhoron, and the border was drawn there, and compassed the corner of the sea southward, from the hill that lies before Bethhoron southward; and the goings out thereof were at Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim, a city of the children of Judah: this was the west quarter”, and in chapter eighteen and verse fifteen of Joshua we learn how, “the south quarter was from the end of Kirjathjearim” where we read,
And the south quarter was from the end of Kirjathjearim,
and the border went out on the west, and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah:
The verse reads, “And the south quarter was from the end of Kirjathjearim, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and the south quarter” or “and the that land existed as the edge, extremity in the southern direction” “was from the end of Kirjathjearim” which means “existed separate and apart from the extremity, mouth and outskirts belonging to Kirjathjearim whose name means ‘city of forests’ and was a city on the northern boundary of Judah and on the western and southern boundaries of Benjamin”. Joshua or the writer shared how the southern extremity belonging to the land given to the “tribe of Benjamin” existed from the edge of “Kirjathjearim”.
The verse continues, “… and the border went out on the west, and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah:” Joshua or the writer added the words, “and the border” which means “and the edge, circuit and boundary” “went out on the west” or “proceeded forth and extended in the western direction”, “and went out to the well of waters” which means “and proceeded forth and extended toward the fountain or spring of watercourses, water floods or water springs” “of Nephtoah” or “belonging to Nephtoah whose name means ‘opening’ and was a spring or source of water on the boundary of the territories of Judah and Benjamin; located northwest of Jerusalem”. Joshua or the writer shared how the boundary of the land given to the “tribe of Benjamin” also extended in the western direction and toward the fountain of the watercourses belonging to “Nehptoah”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn more about the boundary of the territory allotted to the “tribe of Benjamin”. God knew all these areas, and He gave Joshua and the men of Israel the ability not only to discover them, but also to distribute them according to His Divine purpose and will. God loves everybody, and His desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with all of us. When we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and to be raised from the dead after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and equip us to live according to that truth so we may live wherever He desires in a manner that is pleasing to Him. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)
Next time Joshua or the writer says, “the border came down to the end of the mountain”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
