In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “the fifth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-five of Joshua we learn, “their border was Helkath, and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph” where we read,
And their border was Helkath, and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph,
The verse reads, “And their border was Helkath, and Hali, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and their border” which means “and their, the tribe of Asher’s, edge, circuit and boundary” “was Helkath” whose name means “smooth” and was “the town named as the starting point for the boundary of the tribe of Asher and allotted with its suburbs to the Gershonite Levites”, “and Hali” whose name means “necklace” and was “a town on the boundary of Asher between Helkath and Beten”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Helkath and Hali” were “cities” located at the boundary of the territory given to the “tribe of Asher”.
The verse continues, “… and Beten, and Achshaph,” Joshua or the writer added the words, “and Beten” whose name means “womb” and was “a town in Asher”, “and Achshaph” whose name means “I shall be bewitched” and was “a city in north Canaan at foot of Mt Carmel”. Joshua or the writer included “Beten and Achshaph” among the “cities” along the “border” to the land given to the people of “Asher”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn about four “cities” which comprised the boundary to the portion of the promise land allotted to the “tribe of Asher”. “Helkath, Hali, Beten and Achshaph” were locations where the people of “Asher” would raise their families and live in observance of Jehovah God. God loves, God saves and God gives, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for our sins and raised from the dead after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and to empower us to obey that truth so we will live wherever He places us in the world in a manner that is pleasing to Him.
Next time we learn how the border of “Asher” included, “Alammelech, and Amad, and Misheal”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
