The Portion of Judah Which was Simeon’s - Joshua 19:10

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “all the villages that were round about these cities to Baalathbeer, Ramath of the south. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families. Out of the portion of the children of Judah was the inheritance of the children of Simeon: for the part of the children of Judah was too much for them: therefore the children of Simeon had their inheritance within the inheritance of them”, and in chapter nineteen and verse ten of Joshua we learn how, “the third lot came up for the children of Zebulun” where we read,

And the third lot came up for the children of Zebulun according to their families: 

and the border of their inheritance was unto Sarid:

The verse reads, “And the third lot came up for the children of Zebulun according to their families:” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and the third lot” which means “and the third portion, share or allotment” “came up” or “ascended and arose on the scene” “for the children of Zebulun” which means “on behalf of the offspring and progeny belonging to Zebulun whose name means “exalted” and was the tenth of the sons of Jacob, sixth and last of Leah; progenitor of the tribe of Zebulun” “according to their families” which means “in keeping with their kindred, kinsmen and relatives”. Joshua or the writer shared how the “third” apportionment of territory within the promised land went to the offspring and relatives belonging to the “tribe of Zebulun”.

 

The verse goes on to say, “and the border of their inheritance was unto Sarid:” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and the border” which means “and the edge, circuit and boundary” “of their inheritance” or “pertaining to their, the offspring of Zebulun’s, possession, property, share, portion and heritage” “was unto Sarid” which means “exited to Sarid whose name means ‘survivor’ and was a place or landmark on the border of Zebulun”. Joshua or the writer shared how the boundary to the portion of territory given to the “tribe of Zebulun” was to “Sarid”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we gain knowledge of an allotment of territory within the promise land that was provided to the offspring of the “tribe of Zebulun”. Their boundary went to “Sarid”, and we shall learn more about this area in our next verses. For now let us consider that one by one Jehovah God was providing for the “tribes” within the people of Israel just the way He said He would. He made us a promise to us as well through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He promises to forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to help us live in a manner that is pleasing to Him which reveals the glorious gospel and provision He has given to everyone.
