The Coast of Dan’s Inheritance - Joshua 19:41

In the book of Joshua, we learned how the promise land was being distributed to the tribes of Israel, “and the seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families”, and in chapter nineteen and verse forty-one of Joshua we learn about, “the coast of their inheritance” where we read,

And the coast of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Irshemesh,

The verse reads, “And the coast of their inheritance was Zorah, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and the coast of their inheritance” which means “and the edge, circuit and boundary belonging to their, the tribe of Dan’s, property, possession, share, portion and heritage” “was Zorah” which means “existed as Zorah or Zareah or Zoreah whose name means ‘hornet’ and was a town in Dan and the residence of Manoah and the home town of Samson”. Joshua or the writer shared how the boundary to the property given to the people of “Dan” existed as “Zorah”

The verse continues, “… and Eshtaol, and Irshemesh,” Joshua or the writer added the words, “and Eshtaol” whose name means “entreaty” and was “a Danite city located within Judah”, “and Irshemesh” whose name means “city of the sun-god” and was “a city in Dan; probably the same as 'Beth-shemesh'”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Eshtaol and Irshemesh” were among the cities distributed to the people of “Dan”

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover three “cities” that served as boundaries for the territory allotted to the “tribe of Dan”. “Zorah, Eshtaol and Irshemesh” were locations where the people of “Dan” would raise their families in worship and acknowledgement of Jehovah God and His provision. God loves people, and He loves to provide for us. He gave us His greatest provision when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and to empower us to live according to that truth in a manner that is pleasing to Him. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)

Next time we learn about, “Shaalabbin, and Ajalon, and Jethlah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
