From Sarid to Chislothtabor - Joshua 19:12

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “the third lot came up for the children of Zebulun according to their families: and the border of their inheritance was unto Sarid. And their border went up toward the sea, and Maralah, and reached to Dabbasheth, and reached to the river that is before Jokneam” , and in chapter nineteen and verse twelve of Joshua we learn how the border, “turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising unto the border of Chislothtabor” where we read,

And turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising unto the border of Chislothtabor,

and then goes out to Daberath, and goes up to Japhia,

The verse reads, And turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising unto the border of Chislothtabor, …Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and turned from Sarid” which means “and lead separate and apart from Sarid whose name means ‘survivor’ and was a place or landmark on the border of Zebulun“eastward toward the sunrising” or “in an eastern direction toward the rising of the sun, morning light or dawn” “unto the border of Chislothtabor” which means “to the edge, circuit or boundary belonging to Chislothtabor whose name means ‘flanks of labor’ and was ‘a town of Issachar on the slopes of Mount Tabor; also known as ‘Chesulloth’. Joshua or the writer shared how the boundary of the land given to the “tribe of Zebulun” lead from “Sarid” in an eastern direction where dawn appears to the boundary of Chislothtabor”.

The verse goes on to say, … and then goes out to Daberath, and goes up to Japhia,Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and then goes out to Daberath” which means “and following that time leads and proceeds forward to Daberath whose name means ‘word’ and was a Levitical city, modern ‘Debarieh’, which was situated at the western foot of Tabor” “and goes up to Japhia” or “and rises and ascends toward Japhia whose name means ‘shining’ and was a town on the border of Zebulun and Issachar which is perhaps modern ‘Yafa’”. Joshua or the writer shared how the boundary for the land given to the people of “Zebulun” also proceeded toward “Daberath” and ascended toward “Japhia”

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn more about the “border” of the territory provided for the “tribe of Zebulun”. Not only did it lead from “Sarid” in an eastern direction where dawn appears, but it also lead toward “Chislothtabor, Daberath and Japhia”. Once again these may be places that are unfamiliar to us, but not for the people of “Zebulun”. This was God’s gift of the promise land to them and their people, and they were to use this land to raise and develop their families with a consciousness toward Jehovah God at all times. God loves people, and He proved His love when He sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. When God raised Him from the dead after three days, He made the way for us when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord” to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and equipped with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and give us the ability to live in keeping with that truth so we may live in a way that is pleasing to Him. (See John 3:16:16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)

Next time we learn how the border, “from there passes on along on the east to Gittahhepher, to Ittahkazin”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
