The Coast of Manasseh - Joshua 17:7

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan. Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of Manasseh's sons had the land of Gilead, and in chapter seventeen and verse seven of Joshua we learn “the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lies before Shechem” where we read,

And the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lies before Shechem;

and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of Entappuah.

The verse reads, And the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lies before Shechem;Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and the coast of Manasseh” or “and the edge, circuit and boundary belonging to Manasseh whose name means ‘causing to forget’ and was the eldest son of Joseph and progenitor of the tribe of Manasseh” “was from Asher” which means “existed separate and apart from Asher whose name means ‘happy’ and was a son of Jacob and Zilpah and the tribe that descended from Asher” “to Michmethah” whose name means ‘hiding place’ and was a place in northeast Ephraim near the border of Manasseh between Shechem and Taanath-shilo, “that lies before Shechem” which means “that is located in front and in the presence of Shechem whose name means ‘back or shoulder’ and was a city in Manasseh: located in the valley between Mount Ebal and Mount Gerizim, thirty-four miles (54km) north of Jerusalem and seven miles (10.5 km) southeast of Samaria”. Joshua or the writer shared how the border belonging to “Manasseh” existed from “Asher to Michmethah” which was located in front of “Shechem”

The verse goes on to say, and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of Entappuah.” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and the border” which means “and the edge, circuit and boundary” “went along the right hand” or “proceeded and traversed upon the right side direction” “unto the inhabitants of Entappuah” which means “toward the dwellers, abiders and people who lived within Entappuah whose name means ‘fountain of the apple-city’ and was a place on the border between Ephraim and Manasseh. Joshua or the writer shared how the boundary belonging to “Manasseh” proceeded on the right side to “Entappuah” where the people lived.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn more about the boundary of the territory given to the people of “Manasseh”. The edge of the territory “was from Asher to Michmethah” and proceeded along the right side to where the dwellers in “Entapuah” were located. God has a boundary for the territory that He desires to give to us, and when we surrender to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and rose from the grave after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and give us the ability to live according to that truth so that our lives will be pleasing to Him. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)

Next time we learn how, “Manasseh had the land of Tappuah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
