Remeth, Engannim, Enhaddah and Bethpazzez - Joshua 19:21

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “the fourth lot came out to Issachar, for the children of Issachar according to their families. And their border was toward Jezreel, and Chesulloth, and Shunem, and Hapharaim, and Shion, and Anaharath, and Rabbith, and Kishion, and Abez”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-one of Joshua we learn about , “Remeth, Engannim, Enhaddah and Bethpazzez” where we read,

And Remeth, and Engannim, and Enhaddah, and Bethpazzez;

The verse reads, And Remeth, and Engannim,…Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and Remeth” whose name means “height” and was “a town in Issachar”, “and Engannim” or En-gannim whose name means “fountain of the garden” and was “a city on the border of Issachar and allotted to the Gershonite Levites”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Remeth and Engannim” were dwelling places allotted to the “tribe of Issachar”

The verse continues, … and Enhaddah, and Bethpazzez;Joshua or the writer added the words, “and Enhaddah” whose name means “swift fountain” and was “a city on the border of Issachar and allotted to the Gershonite Levites”, “and Bethpazzez” whose name means “house of dispersion” and was “a place in Issachar”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Enhaddah and Bethpazzez” were also among the “cities” allotted to the people of “Issachar”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn of more “cities” that were given to the people of “Issachar”. “Remeth, Engannim, Enhaddah, and Bethpazzez” were all places where the “tribes of Issachar” would raise their families and live within the presence of God. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with all of us. He made this possible when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins which separated us from Him, and when He raised Jesus from the dead after three days, He made the way through faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord” to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and equipped with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth so our lives are pleasing to Him wherever we are in the world. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)

Next time we learn how, “the coast reaches to Tabor, and Shahazimah, and Bethshemesh”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
