In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan”, and in chapter seventeen and verse six of Joshua we learn how “the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons” where we read,
Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons:
and the rest of Manasseh's sons had the land of Gilead.
The verse reads, “Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons:” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “because the daughters of Manasseh” or “since and on account that the female offspring and progeny belonging to Manasseh whose name means ‘causing to forget’ and was the eldest son of Joseph and progenitor of the tribe of Manasseh” “had an inheritance” which means “obtained, possessed and owned a property, heritage, share or portion” “among his sons” or “in the midst and middle of his, Manasseh’s, male offspring and progeny”. Joshua or the writer referred to how the “daughters of Manasseh” obtained a portion of property in the midst of the male offspring of “Manasseh”.
The verse continues, “and the rest of Manasseh's sons had the land of Gilead.” Joshua or the writer added the words, “and the rest of Manasseh’s sons” which means “and the left-over, remainder and excess pertaining to Manasseh’s (whose name means ‘causing to forget’) male offspring” “had the land of Gilead” or “obtained, possessed and owned the district, region, territory and country belonging to Gilead whose name means ‘rocky region’ and was a mountainous region bounded on the west by the Jordan, on the north by Bashan, on the east by the Arabian plateau, and on the south by Moab and Ammon; sometimes called 'Mount Gilead' or the 'land of Gilead' or just 'Gilead'. Divided into north and south Gilead”. Joshua or the writer shared how the remainder of the male offspring of “Manasseh” possessed the territory “of Gilead”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the “daughters of Zelophehad” from “Manasseh” received their territory within the midst of “Manasseh’s” male offspring. The remainder of the “tribe of Manasseh” received their portion on the east side of the Jordan River. God provided for His people, and when these woman thought they were overlooked, they were given their portion. God wants to be in a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days, and when we submit to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth so we manage our lives in a way that pleases Him and receives all He desires to give us. (See John 3:16;16:13: Acts 1:8; Revelations 4:11)
Next time we learn how, “the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lies before Shechem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
