Doing When the Lord Comes - Matthew 24:46

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus told His disciples, if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be you also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man comes. Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household to give them meat in due season?”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse forty-six of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus said, “blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing” where we read:

Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing.

The verse reads, Blessed is that servant, ...” Matthew began with Jesus' word, “blessed” which means “oh how happy, supremely fortunate and well off” “is that servant” which means “exists the lord's slave, bondman and man servile condition”. Matthew shared how Jesus called the person “oh how happy and well off” is the person who serves his master.

The verse continues, “... whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing.” Matthew added Jesus' words, “whom his lord” or “who the servant's master” “when he comes” which means “at the time and moment the master of the servant” “shall find or “will discover, understand, be seen and found” “so doing” which means “attending to the tasks of caring for his master's household”. Matthew shared how Jesus referred to the way the “lord” of the servant would discover he did as he was told.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, how there is a special “blessing” pronounced upon the person who does as his “master” instructed. Those who attend to the things of God are to be “faithful and wise” with what the “lord” has granted to them, and when they “do” as he has instructed, they shall be made “oh how happy”. God desires to have a relationship with every person through His Son Jesus Christ, and after they receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they are commissioned to care for the “Lord's” “good news” of salvation for all who will submit to Him. Those who “faithfully and wisely” care for God's “gospel” will be “blessed” for doing so.

Next time Matthew writes how Jesus declared, “he shall make him ruler over all his goods”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
