The Coming of the Lord as Fast as Lightning - Matthew 24:27

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse twenty-seven of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus referred to His coming being as, “the lightning comes out of the east, and shines unto the west”” where we read:

For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even unto the west;

so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

The verse reads, For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even unto the west;” Matthew began with Jesus' word, “for” which means “because, since and on account that”, “as the lightning comes out” which means “in like manner of the glare and bright shining of lightning advances, departs and goes forth” “of the east” or “from the rising of the sun and stars”, “and shines” which means “brings forth and sheds light” “even unto the west” or “until it shines toward the setting of the sun and stars”. Matthew shared how Jesus made a reference to the way “lightning” brings for the “light” from an “eastward” direction and illuminates to a “westward” direction.

The verse continues, “so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Matthew added the words, “so shall also” or “thus will even and indeed” “the coming” or “the arrival and advent” “of the Son of man be” which means “will be the coming of God's Son Jesus the Messiah”. Jesus said His appearing would be as instantaneous as “lightning” shining from “east to west”.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus refutes the reports of people saying the “Messiah” would be in the “desert” or “secret chambers”. Jesus will come as quick as “lighting” that dances across the sky from “the east to the west” in direction. First Corinthians chapter fifteen and verse fifty-two says, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed”, and like unto the quickness of a “lightning strike”, Jesus the Messiah will appear, and all who are wise will not only submit their lives to Him as “Savior and Lord”, but will also look for and “love His appearing”. (See 2 Timothy 4:8)

Next time Matthew writes how Jesus says, “wheresoever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
