Heaven and Earth Will Pass But Not Jesus' Words - Matthew 24:35

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus instructed His disciples, Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is nigh. So likewise you, when you shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse thirty-five of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus told His disciples, “heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” where we read:

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

The verse reads, Heaven and earth shall pass away, ...” Matthew began with Jesus' word, “heaven” which means “the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings” “and earth” or “the arable land, country, territory and region” “shall pass away” which means “will go, not continue, perish and be averted”. Matthew shared how Jesus referred to “heaven and earth” perishing.

The verse continues, “... but my words shall not pass away.” Matthew added Jesus' words, “but” or “also, nevertheless, moreover and” “my words” which means “Jesus' speech, decree, mandate, orders and precepts” “shall not pass away” which means “will not pass, not continue, perish, be neglected or omitted”. Matthew shared how Jesus said His “sayings and decrees” would never “perish or be omitted”.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we understand the eternal nature of Jesus' words. Though the “heavens and earth” shall perish, Jesus' words never will. God's word is the truth, and He sent His Son Jesus to save people from their “sins” so they may live with Him forever. These things are the “truth” of God, and though “heaven and earth” disappear, these trues never will. Let all who read these words know and understand the value of Jesus' words and submit themselves to Him as their “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Matthew writes how Jesus tells His disciples, “of that day and hour knows no man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
