This Generation Shall Not Pass - Matthew 24:34

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus instructed His disciples, Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is nigh. So likewise you, when you shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse thirty-four of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus shared His disciples how, “this generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled” where we read:

Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

The verse reads, Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, ...” Matthew began with Jesus' word, “verily” which means “truly and surely” “I say” or “Jesus utters, declares and proclaims” “unto you” which refers to “Jesus' disciples”, “this generation” or “the descendants and successive members of a genealogy” “shall not pass” which means “will not perish or continue”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the “descendants of the time of Jesus' coming and the end of the world” will continue.

The verse goes on to say, “... till all these things be fulfilled.” Matthew added Jesus' words, “till all these things” or “until each, every, the whole and everyone of the signs Jesus gave” “be fulfilled” which means “happen, come to pass, arise, are established, performed, completed and finished”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the “generation” that is alive during the last days of Jesus' signs will not perish until all of them come to pass.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see Jesus' promise concerning the final “generation” that will exist before He returns and the “end of the world” arrives. God gives every person an opportunity to know Him personally through His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they may be assured of “everlasting life” with Him. Should there be one reading these words who have discovered all of Jesus' prophecies have come to pass, cling to Jesus, and know He promised those who “believe and trust” in Him will not “perish” until all these things are completed.

Next time Matthew writes how Jesus tells His disciples, “heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
