Not Returning for Clothes from the Field - Matthew 24:18

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “When you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso reads, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse eighteen of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus said, “neither let him which is in the field return back” where we read:

Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

The verse reads, Neither let him which is in the field ...” Matthew began with the word, “neither” which means “nor, no and not in any way” “let him” which means “allow and permit the person whether male or female” “which is in the field” or “who is located in the lands, farms, country seats or neighboring hamlets”. Matthew shared how Jesus referred to people who would be working in “fields” away from their homes.

The verse continues, “... return back to take his clothes.” Matthew added Jesus' words, “return back” or “to revert or go back” “to take his clothes” which means “to carry away and remove his clothing, robes, garments, cloaks, mantle or tunics”. Matthew shared how Jesus instructed those who would be working away from their homes not to go back to them to retrieve their clothing.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we understand Jesus' imperative warning to those who would be working away from their homes when the “abomination of desolation” occurs. This single act shall turn the events in the lives of people so much, it will be unwise to return to their homes to retrieve their clothes. God knows these things in advance, and all who read these words should consider themselves warned to flee into the arms of His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. If there are those reading these words who happen to be on earth when the “abomination of desolation” comes, run, because your life depends on it.

Next time Matthew writes how Jesus says, “woe unto them that are with child … in those days”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
