Forsake the Foolish and Live - Proverbs 9:6

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said of wisdom, Whoever is simple, let him turn in here: as for him that wants understanding, she says to him, come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled”, and in chapter nine and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “forsake the foolish, and live” where we read,

Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

The verse begins, “Forsake the foolish, and live; Solomon began with the words, “forsake the foolish” or “leave, abandon and neglect simplicity, naivete and silliness”, and live which means “and have prosperous and sustained life”. Solomon said the results of abandoning simplicity and naivete would be to have a prosperous and sustained life.

The verse continues, “and go in the way of understanding.” Solomon added the words, “and go in the way” or “and walk, advance and make progress on the roadway, journey, manner, habit and path” “of understanding” which means “pertaining to discernment, knowledge and wisdom”. Solomon said people who receive Jehovah God's words of “wisdom” would make progress and advance within the pathway of knowledge and discernment.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how Jehovah God wants us to abandon simplicity and naivete to make our journey in accordance with His knowledge and “wisdom”. This journey begins in humility and reverence of Jehovah God who gave His Only Begotten Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross and raised from the dead three days later so everyone who believes and trusts in Him can be saved. God wants to forgive our sins, give us everlasting life and extend to us His “wisdom” through His Holy Spirit who shall guide us into all truth and give us the power to live in accordance with that truth. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8 and James 1:5) Let all who read these words humble themselves before God, forsake foolish ways and advance in His “wisdom” as they make their way in the world.

Next time Solomon says, “he that reproves a scorner gets to himself shame”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
