Let the Simple Turn In - Proverbs 9:4

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out her seven pillars. She has killed her beasts; she has mingled her wine; she has also furnished her table. She has sent forth her maidens: she cries upon the highest places of the city, ...”, and in chapter nine and verse four of Proverbs Solomon said, “whoever is simple, let him turn in” where we read,

Whoever is simple, let him turn in here: as for him that wants understanding, she says to him,

The verse begins, Whoever is simple, let him turn in here: Solomon began with the words, “whoever is simple” or “whatever person whether male or female exists as naive, foolish, silly and open-minded”, let him turn in here which means “allow and permit him, the naive person, to come into wisdom's house”. Solomon shared how “wisdom” invites people who are naive and foolish to come into her house.

The verse goes on to say,as for him that wants understanding, she says to him, ...” Solomon continued with the words, “as for him that wants understanding” or “and for people whether male or female who in need, lacking, void and destitute of knowledge, thinking, reflection and memory”, “she says to him” which means “she, wisdom, utters, declares and proclaims to that person” the words in our next verse. Solomon referred to people who are destitute of knowledge and reflection as he alluded to that which is said in our next verse.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is an open invitation by Jehovah God to anyone who is naive and open-minded to receive of His “wisdom”. God wants us to be wise, and when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”, we have made the wisest choice we shall ever make. When we surrender to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide us with His Holy Spirit who shall guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8) Then our lives will not only be in accordance with His way, but shall also be as witnesses to others of the glorious “wisdom” of God.

Next time Solomon shares how wisdom says, “come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
