Wise or Scorning - Proverbs 9:12

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. For by me your days shall be multiplied, and the years of your life shall be increased”, and in chapter nine and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon said, “if your are wise, you shall be wise for yourself” where we read,

If you are wise, you shall be wise for yourself: but if you scorn, you alone shall bear it.

The verse begins, “If you are wise, you shall be wise for yourself: Solomon began with the words, “if you are wise” or “whether and in case you, those listening to and reading Solomon's words, exist as skillful, shrewd and prudent”, you shall be wise which means “you, the people listening to and reading Solomon's words who exist as skillful, shrewd and prudent, will exist as skillful, shrewd and prudent” “for yourself” or “on behalf of your own self”. Solomon shared how the person who is skillful and prudent will be the one benefited.

The verse continues, “but if you scorn, you alone shall bear it.” Solomon added the words, “but if you scorn” or “however, notwithstanding, nevertheless and notwithstanding whether and in case you, people listening to and reading Solomon's words, talk arrogantly, boast, mock and deride”, “you alone shall bear it” which means “you, solely and by your own self will carry, support, sustain and endure it, the arrogance and pride that accompanies boasting and mocking”. Solomon said in case the people reading and listening to his words are boastful and arrogant, they shall carry and sustain them their own selves.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the person who is skillful and shrewd benefits themselves, however, if a person is arrogant and boastful, they will carry that mocking heart their own selves. God wants us to be “wise”, and we must become humble before Him, put aside all mocking and pride, and yield ourselves to His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the mocking and prideful heart that rejects the “wisdom” and skill of Almighty God.

Next time Solomon says, “a foolish woman is clamorous”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
