Are You Able to Make Known the Dream? - Daniel 2:26

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he went to Arioch, and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will show unto the king the interpretation. Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse twenty-six Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar asked him, “are you able to make known unto me the dream?” where we read,

The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar,

Are you able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?

The verse reads, “The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, ... Daniel began with the words, “the king” or “the royal ruler and leader, Nebuchadnezzar” “answered and said to Daniel” which means “replied and responded to Daniel whose name means God is my judge”,“whose name was Belteshazzar” or “who was called by the Babylonian name Belteshazzar which means lord of the straitened's treasure”. Daniel shared how “King Nebuchadnezzar” responded to Arioch and asked “Daniel” who was known in Babylon by “Belteshazzar” the following question.

The verse continues, “... Are you able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?” Daniel added the words, “are you able” which means “are you, Daniel, competent and capable” “to make known unto me” or “to expose and reveal to me, King Nebuchadnezzar” “the dream which I have seen” which means “the mental imagery that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, observed, noticed and saw”, “and the interpretation thereof” or “and the rendering and meaning of the dream”? Daniel shared how King Nebuchadnezzar asked him whether he was capable of revealing his “dream” to him and the meaning of it.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how King Nebuchadnezzar wanted to know if he was capable of revealing his “dream” and “interpretation” to him. We shall see how Daniel answers him in our next few verses, but for now let us imagine the position that “Daniel” held to be able to be in front of the most powerful person in the world to perform God's will. God is omniscient and omnipotent, and He is able to “make known” anything He desires. God has revealed His Salvation plan to mankind through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and He was raised from the dead after three days so all who believe and trust in Him as their “Savior and Lord” may be forgiven their sins, granted everlasting life and informed about things unknown even as Daniel whenever He desires.

Next time Daniel shares how he, “answered in the presence of the king”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
