Daniel Answers the King - Daniel 2:27

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he went to Arioch, and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will show unto the king the interpretation. Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation. The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Are you able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse twenty-seven Daniel shared how he, “answered in the presence of the king” where we read,

Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king has demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, show unto the king;

The verse reads, “Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, ... Daniel began with the words, “Daniel answered” or “Daniel whose name means God is my judge replied and responded” “in the presence of the king” which means “before and in front of the royal ruler and leader”,“and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” the following words. Daniel shared how he responded to King Nebuchadnezzar's question with the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... The secret which the king has demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, show unto the king;” Daniel continued with the words, “the secret” which means “the hidden mystery” “which the king has demanded” or “that the royal ruler and leader has inquired about, requested and asked for” “cannot the wise men” which means “the soothsaying and learned male human beings are powerless and unable”, “the astrologers” or “the conjurers, enchanters and necromancers”, “the magicians” which means “the prestidigitators or conjurers”, “the soothsayers” or “the seers, diviners, fortune-tellers or prognosticators”, “show unto the king” which means “inform, tell, declare or explain to the royal ruler and leader”. Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar that learned men, enchanters, conjurers and diviners were unable to reveal the hidden mystery that he requested.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar that none of the “wise and learned men” were unable to reveal his “dream and the interpretation” to him. This answer may have upset King Nebuchadnezzar, however, Daniel was not finished with his words. We shall see more of what Daniel had to say in our next verses, but for now let us see how Daniel was confident in what God revealed to him. God is able to share whatever He desires with whomever He wants, and because we have the Bible, we know that He desires to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the dead after three days. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and help us to live according to that truth so that our lives, like Daniel's, are used for His pleasure. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)

Next time Daniel says, “there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
