In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he spoke to King Nebuchadnezzar and said, “You, O king, saw, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and the form thereof was terrible”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse thirty-two Daniel shared how he told King Nebuchadnezzar that the image possessed a, “head of gold, breast and arms of silver and a belly and thighs of brass” where we read,
This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,
The verse reads, “This image's head was of fine gold, ...” Daniel began with the words, “this image's head” or “the idolatrous figure possessed a head which” “was of fine gold” which means “was made of good and pleasing gold metal”. Daniel shared how the massive idolatrous figure had a head that was made with pleasing gold metal.
The verse continues, “... his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,” Daniel added the words, “his breast and his arms” which means “his, the idolatrous figure's, chest and arms of the idolatrous figure” “of silver” or “was made with silver metal”, “his belly and his thighs” which means “his, the idolatrous figure's, external abdomen and upper legs or loin area” “of brass” or “was made with copper or bronze”. Daniel said the idolatrous figure's chest and arms of the body were fabricated with silver metal, and it's abdomen area and the upper legs were comprised with copper or bronze.
When we consider Daniel's words in this verse, we discover more about the “idolatrous figure” which was within King Nebuchadnezzar's “dream”. Nebuchadnezzar observed the physical “head” of the “image” was fashioned with pleasing gold metal, and it's chest and arms were formed with silver metal. It's abdomen and upper legs were made with copper or bronze which made this “image” ominous to observe. Each of these areas of the body had significance for the future of mankind at that time and in our time to come, and Daniel will tell the meaning of them in verses ahead. For now let us imagine seeing this baleful sight. God was revealing His plan for the salvation of mankind which would lead to His Son Jesus entering the world to die on the cross and be resurrected from the dead after three days. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to give us aid knowing He has everything, including the future, completely in His control.
Next time Daniel shares how he told King Nebuchadnezzar that the image also possessed, “legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
